The community will be invited to be owner-investors and economic benefits will stay local via returns on investment and a new community grants fund. The project is initiated and led by local people.
Wind power is an effective, cheap and emissions-free way to meet our electricity needs. It is well-established and widely used in many parts of the world.
Did you know?
- Hazelwood has a 1,600 megawatt (1,470 net) capacity, supplying up to 25 per cent of Victoria’s base load electricity and more than 5 per cent of Australia’s total energy demand. As of 4 March, 2014, non-operational but approved windfarms in Victoria are reckoned to have a 2415MW capacity.
- One 2 MW wind turbine displaces 6,132MW hours of electricity from fossil fuels and cuts greenhouse gas emissions by 6,929 tons every year. This is equivalent to taking 1,386 cars off the road every year.
